Diagnosing Your Fish...

Symptoms vary from disease to disease, but most ailments share common symptoms, including:

*rapidly flapping gills
*staying at the water surfaces

*floating
*having an unhealthy appearance
*exhibiting unusual behavior
*trouble swimming
*refusing to eat

All of these could be signs of disease. Disease in fish is often time contagious and deadly, therefore early detection is the key. Sometimes sick fish should be isolated into a holding tank, but please Click here for some General Tips.

Luckily, once properly identified, most common fish ailments are easily treated with medicines found in pet stores. Remember, it is always wise to treat entire fish tank for disease, instead of just the isolated fish. Also, if you have a carbon filter, make sure to deactivate carbon, as it will filter medicine from tank. Do not change water until fish have been properly treated.

It is generally a good idea to have some medicine on you, in case of emergencies. I personally recommend keeping "Maracyn" and "Maracyn 2". They both treat a variety of common illnesses ad they work, so therefore I endorse them. Click here for information on Maracyn
